Privacy Policy

Effective July 1, 2026

This policy explains what CollegeCounselor (the "Service") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible — the Service is free and works anonymously.

1. What we collect

Anonymous usage. You can use Chance Me and the counselor without an account. The stats you enter are processed to generate a response and may be logged in de-identified form for up to 90 days to improve quality. We do not require your name.

First-party analytics. We count usage ourselves rather than through an advertising network. A random identifier is stored in your browser so we can tell repeat visits apart; it is not derived from anything about you, is never shared, and clearing your browser storage resets it. Alongside it we record the page, the referring site’s domain (never the full address), your language, and whether the window is phone- or desktop-sized. We do not store your IP address or a device fingerprint.

Answer ratings. If you rate a counselor answer with a thumbs up or down, we keep that rating together with the question and answer so we can find and fix weak answers. That text is visible only to the Service’s operators and is erased after 180 days, while the anonymous rating is kept.

2. Community data

The Service includes anonymized applicant outcomes drawn from public forums. Usernames are irreversibly hashed at ingestion and never stored in raw form, and outcomes are shown only in anonymized, aggregate form — they are not tied to your name or any account and cannot be traced back to you.

3. Third parties

Your queries to the counselor are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate responses, and profile text may be sent to an embeddings provider for similarity search. We do not sell your data or use advertising trackers. We use only essential cookies (such as remembering your language preference).

4. Your choices

You use the Service entirely anonymously. Because it requires no account and stores no name, email, or contact details, there is no personal profile to access, correct, or delete. The stats you enter and your chat history are kept only in your own browser, and you can clear them at any time.

5. Children

The Service is intended for prospective college applicants. If you are under 13, please use the Service with a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

6. No accounts, no personal data

We do not offer accounts, ask for your name or email, or store contact details — so there is nothing to sign into and no personal-data request to make. If this policy changes materially, we will update it here with a new effective date.
