Is an AI college counselor accurate?
Every figure is drawn from a public dataset — IPEDS, the College Scorecard, the Common Data Set and UCAS — and shown with its source. We give honest reach / target / safety bands instead of a made-up single percentage, so you can trust and verify what you see.
Where does the admissions data come from?
US enrollment and outcome data from the federal IPEDS and College Scorecard; per-school admit rates, test ranges and GPA profiles from each school's Common Data Set; and UK entry requirements and offer rates from UCAS. Public sources only, refreshed each admissions cycle.
What is “Chance Me”?
It estimates whether a school is a reach, target or safety for your profile, based on the school's real published admit rate and test ranges — not a fabricated probability. It's a grounded band, meant as a starting point, not a guarantee.
Is CollegeCounselor free?
Yes. You can use Chance Me and the AI counselor with no account and completely anonymously — your stats and chats stay in your own browser.
Does it cover UK and international admissions?
Yes. There's a UK UCAS offer checker and an international requirements lookup covering Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and EU English-taught programs, plus graduate (law, MBA, medicine, master's) guidance.
Can it help international and Chinese applicants?
The whole site works in English and 简体中文, and the counselor understands international curricula and applicant context — so families applying from abroad get advice tuned to their system, not just US-domestic defaults.
